The Arjun Reddy Foundation: What We Do and Why

For years our social work ran on goodwill: a group of friends, a phone tree and whoever could help that day. That works for a while. But goodwill on its own is unpredictable. When a family needs blood at midnight, or a village needs food after a cyclone, they need help that arrives reliably. That is why I wanted the Arjun Reddy Foundation: a more structured home for the work.

What the Foundation works on

• Blood and organ donation. Encouraging voluntary blood donation, supporting camps with licensed blood centres, and promoting organ donation pledges through official channels such as NOTTO and Jeevandan AP.
• Relief. Responding when disaster strikes, as we did during COVID-19 and after Cyclone Titli in 2018.
• Women's safety. Awareness and support work around sexual violence, carried out with sensitivity and in step with official helplines and authorities.
• Education. Free education for children of single mothers.
• Awareness programmes that tie all of this together.

Principles we try to hold to

1. Fill gaps. Don't duplicate. Government programmes, hospitals and established charities already do a great deal. A small foundation adds the most value where people fall through the cracks: the family that doesn't know which blood centre to call, or the child whose fees are the only thing standing between her and school.

2. Dignity first. No one should have to perform their gratitude for help. We are careful about photographs and publicity, especially with women, children and survivors of violence.

3. Use official channels. Blood is collected by licensed blood centres. Organ pledges are registered through official portals. Emergencies go to 112. Our role is to connect people to the system and support them through it.

4. Count honestly. When we give a number, it is our own count, and we try not to inflate it. I would rather under-claim than over-claim.

5. Keep it non-political. Need does not check anyone's party or caste. Help shouldn't either.

What comes next
